For builders

Stop fronting
£5k of materials
on trust.

WorkPaid is the quote-to-paid app for UK builders. Extensions, loft conversions, driveways, kitchen rips - deposit before the timber order, stage payments through every fix, final payment without chasing.

No card to start. 2.5% per paid quote, capped at £500.

Big jobs. Bigger exposure.

£15k of materials. Maybe.

A £40k extension can need £10-15k of materials before the digger turns up. Foundation goes in, customer goes silent. You can't dig the slab back out.

"We agreed verbally."

Customer changes their mind on the spec mid-job. Now the quote is "what we agreed in the kitchen six weeks ago" - and you've already paid for the wrong tiles.

The 90% trap.

Job's 90% done. Customer finds a snag, withholds final 20%. You've fronted everything. Small claims for £8k against a homeowner is a nightmare nobody wins.

Staged payments, built in

Three things WorkPaid does that a written quote can't.

1

Multi-stage payments without the spreadsheet

Quote the extension at £45k, broken into Deposit (£9k) → First-fix (£15k) → Second-fix (£15k) → Snagging (£6k). Customer pays each stage as you trigger it. No "I'll transfer next week" - the platform handles it. Each paid stage can land in your account in about 30 minutes with Instant Payouts (1% fee), or free on the standard 1-2 working day schedule.

2

Scope changes documented in real time

"Could we have underfloor heating instead?" Add it as an amendment with the cost difference. Customer approves in the app, the extra rolls into the next stage. No "what we agreed verbally" disputes six weeks later.

3

HMRC-clean records for the accountant

Every paid stage auto-generates an invoice. Quarterly CSV export drops into FreeAgent, Xero or QuickBooks. MTD ready (the £50k self-employed tier went live April 2026).

Built around the jobs you actually quote

Extensions

£20-100k+ jobs. Four-stage payment plan keeps cashflow positive throughout.

Loft conversions

£30-60k typical. Deposit funds the steel order, stages cover materials as you go.

Driveways & patios

£3-15k jobs. Two-stage: deposit before the kerb arrives, balance on completion.

Kitchen rips + installs

£8-30k. Customer commits before you dismantle the old kitchen and they're cooking on a campsite stove.

Questions builders ask

Can I take staged payments through it? +

Yes - that's the main reason builders use it. Define as many stages as you need (deposit, first-fix, second-fix, snagging, whatever). Each stage has its own amount and trigger. You mark a stage complete, the customer pays it, you move on.

What about scope changes mid-job? +

Add an amendment - extra work, extra cost, customer approves it in the app. The extra rolls into the next stage automatically. Everything's documented + agreed, no "we'll sort it at the end" surprises.

2.5% on a £40k extension is £1k - that's a lot. +

Capped at £500 per quote. A £40k extension costs you £500 in fees, not £1k - same as a £20k job. Or pass it on: flip on fee-pass and the 2.5% is added to the customer's total as one all-in price, so a £40k quote nets you the full £40k. Compare to your worst-case alternative: ghosted customer with £15k of materials in the ground, or small-claims solicitor fees that start at £500 just to file.

Does the customer need to download anything? +

No. They get a link, open it on whatever device, pay each stage as you trigger it - by card (Apple Pay and Google Pay included), or straight from their bank on stages up to £10k (cheaper for you, and no chargebacks). Larger stages go by card. Stripe handles the payment (same system Uber and Deliveroo use). No app, no account, no faff.

Materials paid for before they're ordered.

No monthly fee. No card needed to sign up.
